more to come - rob pika! pika!written 2008-02-16 22:48:46there is a new illustration site called "pikaland". it's a site dedicated to those who want to live the "illustrated life", rather it is dedicated to illustrators and the wares they sell. this would be including myself..you can find my "portrait of a black hare" as my shop banner on the right of their site. plus,it's just a very refreshing and fun site to peruse and the work on there is very eclectic and amazing.
you can check out my friends at pikaland "here"
ps...
(buy more art...like mine.) new year and new workwritten 2008-01-05 08:56:37happy new year to you.
2 new pieces are up in the illustration gallery, they are “of the ordinary city” and “a fox through a dark wood”. with the city painting, it was more a divergence from what i normally paint and was an interesting way to explore subject matter that was not more so figurative.
with fox it was taking my same subject matter and pushing it a little farther, it’s not so much anthropomorphic as much of my other work is, but more “real” and yet at the same time holding an air of what might be found in a brothers grimm fable. apparently I need to lighten up a bit.
you can view the two paintings "here" and "here".
ahhh.. quiet brokenwritten 2007-10-01 22:57:29although i have promised awhile back,a new 2.0 version of the site is currently under development, hopefully chock full of new and interesting bits to fascinate. the site design and style is flowing in a more subtle color tone, like the new "st. albinus snake" piece just added to the painting section.
maybe the more muted colors are reflecting my desire to see fall come here to southern california.(sadly there is no real change of seasons in these parts and although it was 72 degrees the previous day it is back to being...hot.)
things may change still.
who knows. you can view "st. albinus snake" here.
i have also learned that i am to be a father. yeah. i soon will have a little artist of my own. now i really have to get myself to the table and create a children's book.
more news to come - New work posted...written 2007-08-13 22:46:51peepwritten 2007-04-10 01:13:31hello all. not much to say other than,i have come up
out of my self imposed silence, rather laziness of writing.
i believe last post was in december. working on a 2.0 version of the site, new layout and design. should be more "filler" and stuff to keep your interest.
2 new pieces are listed in the gallery section. you can see them "here" and "here". it's time for another break and vacation. be well and more soon.
-rob a new yearwritten 2007-01-13 16:13:07it has been awhile, the holidays are past and a new year is well under way. hence, it's time to write again,or so i have been told.i have been keeping an online shop for sometimes, offering my prints and such for sale. i have not written about it, considering i was going to make an online store here.but things being what they are i obviously haven't.
that said please visit my online store at Etsy.com,"Your place to buy and sell all things handmade." the link is "here." and also a question for you.a good friend who helped me develop this site has suggested that i blog in my news forum more regularly. as news has been rather slow lately and my time not so much "illustrated" focused, i figure that if it is not illo related why bother posting?
my question for you dear reader is what do you think? per this new page should i start using it more as a blog? let me know what you think. i would appreciate it.
you can contact me at robert@robbridges.com.
oh yes,more work coming soon.

more to come -rob the smell of memorywritten 2006-10-11 01:03:03work lies waiting for me on my drawing board and time slips on once again. nothing new to show just yet. i spend the bulk of my life(like all others) working. when not designing or painting i am plotting the next project ahead of me. i have picked up the "nasty" habit of workaholic-ness lo these past few years.
a month ago my wife's great aunt of 91 years passed away. i had known her the second week that i began dating my wife. she declared that i was the "one", the one God had set up for her niece, new to California via Vermont.
she was many things,a "bit off " at times, prone to rambling and stubbornness...but she was right..i know this now.
she had been ill sometime and succumbed after much pain and struggle in a hospice. my wife and i were grocery shopping one night, walking down the length of an aisle she clenched me and whispered her love into my ear. 15 minutes passed and we received the call.
that week was an odd one, never having been so close to death was strange. i had no real pain, nor did our family as aunt Katheryne longed to go home.still life seemed a bit different, it seemed fleeting and ethereal, fragile.
one moment someone is with you, the next, they just go away.they are gone.
this struck me even more so as at aunt Katheryne's burial site, as they lowered her into the ground and lay fresh earth upon her my cousin's 1 year old sat on the grass, his new eyes taking in all around him, his attention held to the small earth mover that covered the grave.
that week i began to re-evaluate my life. a few weeks past, then a month came and went and the duties of life began to grow again. and like weeds it's demands and obligations,it's petty grievances and distractions began to grow thick and high.
i realized that my memory or even thought of Katheryne faded till i gave her no thought at all.re-evaluation slowly and slyly faded away too... and i forgot. my mind went back to it's old ways. my meditations and projects took over my time again as did my ruminations on the fate of television heroes and heroines i watched every week as well as that of news and gossip on the airwaves.
my mind became busy for busyness sake. and the concerns and cares that nipped at me, i buried in this busyness.
how easy it is, how frightening it is to forget to be in the moment. and how easy it is to allow the din of busyness blind one from living life and taking stock of it. to be in the now, the present and not take life for granted. it is always good to be reminded of such things. - rob

finally, a new post...written 2006-09-18 11:04:58summer is over and fall is round the bend...and my creative blood is running quick and strong. just posted a new work in the illustration page titled, "leda and the swan". eventually i will have more paintings up too.
i am now listed on illustrationMundo, a site devoted soley to illustration, i am a bit excited to see how things goe over there. you can find it on the links page.
if interested in receiving email updates please visit the mailing list page and subscribe; you will be notified when new work goes online.
more to come. -rob new work postedwritten 2006-08-23 00:14:01posted a new piece in the illustration page titled "girl in red",the idea and theme is loosely based on a work of Vermeer. you can read about it on the illustration page.
i have also been accepted into a group show in seattle slated for a december opening. more info on this as the date draws near.
vacation....oh vacation....
my wife and i will be hopping in our "ride" to yellowstone this wednesday. we head out that way via La Vegas.
we are travelling with my parents and meeting my in-laws from Vermont in yellowstone for a much needed end of summer rest. as usual though, life enjoys tossing little monkey wrenches into my leisurely (rut),drive plans. a short night stay has changed into 2 nights in vegas and a 12 hour nonstop ride to wyoming in keeping with our itinerary. 12 hours in a car...12 hours... i can't stand waiting for my food to warm in the microwave much less this. i will be back to the drawing table soon, and new pieces should start being posted regularly in september. i lied about being back into the swing of things...we'll it's summer, life happens.
- rob 35written 2006-08-11 10:53:23been another hectic week, i remember previous summers as slow and relaxing. this summer, along with the surface of the sun heat-waves, it has become a busy, too-much-to-do, break my routine sort of week.
wednesday i officially turned 35, not 34, nor 33...35. i guess this makes me an "older" adult rather than the young adult i remember being.
Such is life.
as posted earlier I decided to take a few days breather from work on new pieces. i am back into the swing of things and i should have more work posted very soon. if interested in receiving email updates please visit the mailing list page and subscribe; you will be notified when new work goes online.
in my quest to wet my feet within the illustration world, i have met a few individuals with tips and places where to post for exposure and work.
i have had contact with Dan Santat,(www.dantat.com) an enormously talented illustrator who's projects have made it to the Disney channel and has work published regularly. His help is greatly appreciated, check out his site.
if you've any questions or responses please feel free to contact me. otherwise, more to come soon. - rob Copaseticwritten 2006-08-01 00:53:22So everything is up and running, so far, so good. I am planning some new pieces based upon the work of Kafka and Vermeer. I am looking to delve into a few classics of literature, but these are still in the idea stages for me. I will post when they come ready.
The strain of continual late night work is catching up with me. I might need to take a short breather, this happens every other month and after a few days I am back to my night owlish state. So says my wife.
I am looking to do some illustrative magazine work as well as children's book work, we'll...rather, just about anything that falls my way.
I did however recently recieve some very good and wise advise on being an illustrator from miss Jillian Tamaki. A very talented artist based out of New York. Thank you again Jillian, I took it to heart.
You can link to her site as well as her partner Sam Weber's site in the Links section. Do check her out, she has "Mad Skillz" More to come... Website Livewritten 2006-07-16 04:17:02After much anticipation and languishing, I'm pleased to announce
the official launch of "rob bridges illustration."
