The Hypnogogic Reveries of Charles Hamm

In late evening the habitually ordered Charles Hamm would oft settle into his favorite seat and thumb through “Volume One of The Appendices and Naturalized Histories of The Thousand Weed Marsh and Other Sods”, here in the late hours sleep would come calling, it’s slow dreams shuffling and banking through his tired mind. In these dreams the Grackles of the Iron Pot Valley materialized and lazily floated about cawing and singing some unknown birdsong. Was their arrival some abstruse portent of events to come or were they merely products of an outworn mind deprived of sleep? Charles would soon find out…
